About Us

How We're Helping

San Diego Men On A Mission is a group of local men who are committed to supporting our local community in San Diego while having a little fun in a casual and social atmosphere (no "Black Tie" or "Gala" events)!  We come from all walks of life and different financial backgrounds. As individuals we felt that it was difficult to make a very large impact, but as a group we have the ability to contribute to the growth of our community in ways that we never before thought possible.

All charities and organizations up for consideration must be in the San Diego area. The idea is to keep it local and have an impact that we can see in our local communities!

Make an Impact!

Be an integral part of an innovative, casual, social and charitable group whose primary purpose is to make a positive impact on local San Diego charitable causes.

Thank You

Whether you help through monetary donations, spreading our mission through word-of-mouth or helping us find interesting speakers for our meetings,  thank you. We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of supporters like you.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How long has this organization been in San Diego?
San Diego Men On A Mission in the San Diego area is a new organization, founded in 2015 by a group of close friends, all community members in the San Diego area.

Which organizations are allowed to be sponsored?
In order to be considered at a meeting, the organization must be located in the San Diego area. Ideally, it would be a non-profit organization recognized as a 501(c)(3). If it is NOT a 501(c)(3), the presenter must advise the members of that information.

    What is a 501(c)(3)?
Being a 501(c)(3) means that a non-profit organization has been approved by the IRS as a tax-exempt, charitable organization. For the purposes of San Diego Men On A Mission all groups up for consideration must be local. For more information please visit the IRS Website.

Is my contribution tax deductible? How do I get my tax forms?
Yes, your contribution is tax deductible unless a cause that is not a 501(c)(3) is voted on by the majority. Checks are written directly to the local organization NOT to San Diego Men On A Mission. Your tax forms will be sent to you directly from the organization that receives your contribution. PLEASE NOTE: Any sponsored non-profit is not allowed to create, sell or distribute a list with your contact information. They are not allowed to solicit you for further contributions. If this were to happen, the organization would no longer be considered at future meetings.

How is the organization that receives the donation chosen?
A member who has signed the commitment form can put the name of a local organization into the box for a random drawing. The organizers of the meeting will collect names of organizations from the participants as they arrive. Please note: you do not have to bring the name of a local organization, though it is encouraged. At random, two organizations will be selected from the box. The members who wrote down each name will be asked to come up and give a short 5 minute presentation as to why their chosen organization should receive the donation. A 5 minute question and answer period follows.  Members will vote on one of the two charities to receive donations.  We will donate our guest speaker's charity as our second charity.  In the event that our guest speaker doesn't have a charity, we will select 3 for presentations and vote on 2.

What do I do if I cannot attend the meeting?
You can send two blank, signed checks with a trusted friend to the meeting. They will write in the name of the charities that are chosen and give it to the organizers on your behalf. They do not vote on your behalf. We can only count the votes of members who are present.
    Or...
After the meeting is over, members who were not able to attend can check the website or call the organizers to find out which charity was selected. You can then write your check and mail it to the organizers, within one week of the meeting date, and we will send it to the charity on your behalf.

Can I just send the donation to the charity myself?
Why does San Diego Men On A Mission have to send it on my behalf?
The goal of San Diego Men On A Mission organization is to make a large donation on behalf of the whole group. We want to be able to support this endeavor and give $10,000+ dollars at a time to make a large impact in our community, with each member's donation being part of the larger donation.

How long do the meetings last?
Meetings are intended to be very short, generally lasting no longer than 45 minutes. However, we are planning to have an optional social time before and after each meeting to get to know other members, answer questions about the organization, and thank those of you who want to serve the community.

I would like to bring a friend to the meeting who is not signed up...
Of course you can! However, in order to vote they will need to sign up prior to their first meeting. They can accomplish this by simply arriving at the meeting a few minutes early.
